5 Tips for Gorgeous Fall Skin

The transition from summer to fall can be devastating to our skin.

During the summer months we tend to exercise more, drink more water and frankly everyone looks better with a little bit of a tan.

But that summer fun comes with a price, even if you use SPF 50 every single day in the summer, you can still end up with dark spots and more visible fine lines and wrinkles.

As our summer glow fades, our skin can look blotchy, broken out and generally unwell.

Check out these 5 tips to keep your skin glowing and fresh as we move from summer to fall!

Hydrate from the inside out

It’s always hard to keep drinking 2-3 liters of water in the fall and winter. The cold weather makes that glass of water less appealing for sure. Try getting more fruit into your diet. Oranges, mandarines, grapes and kiwi are all full of water. In addition they each have high concentrations of Vitamin C which is not just great for your immune system but it is one of the most potent antioxidants to protect your skin and repair the damage that summer sun has caused.

Try drinking a few glasses of warm lemon water throughout the day. You have the added benefit of high concentrations of Vitamin C but it also has been shown to create a more alkaline state for your body which reduces inflammation - perfect not only to reduce the aches and pains of the chilly weather but helps reduce acne and eczema!

Another great tip to keep your skin hydrated is to eat well! Enjoy salmon, avocado, walnuts which are full of healthy fats and help to keep your skin toned and glowing!

Use Antioxidants to Repair Summer Skin Damage

Vitamin E fights against UV photodamage and helps strengthen skin’s natural barrier which is fundamental to protect skin in the coming months. Vitamin E is found in natural oils, nuts and leafy green vegetables like spinach.

Green Tea is rich in plant polyphenols, it is anti-inflammatory and fights the free radicals that can cause premature aging (sun exposure, pollution). Try drinking 2-3 cups of green tea every day. Not only will you help keep your skin hydrated but you will also be repairing it from the inside out. 

Vitamin C is a powerful immunity strengthener - the best way to keep skin glowing and beautiful is to be able to avoid cold and flu medicine! When used on skin it is a fantastic skin lightener in case any dark spots have appeared after summer tanning.

Turmeric decreases inflammation, speeds up wound healing and is antimicrobial. It targets your pores and can calm irritated skin. You can also use turmeric on those dark spots that you notice now that your tan is fading - just make a paste out of turmeric powder and honey, apply and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse and repeat 2-3 times a week.

Add Retinol to Your Beauty Routine

Retinol is actually a form of Vitamin A that has been proven in hundreds of studies to actually fight wrinkles! By applying it to your skin it can improve collagen production AND decrease collagen breakdown - the perfect anti age combination!
